Far From Me
John Prine
As the cafe was closin on a warm summer night, Kathy was cleanin the spoons. The radio played the hit parade and i hummed along with the tune. She asked me to change the station, said that song just drove her insane, but it werent the music that was playin, it was me she was tryin to blame.

Oh the sky is black and still now on the hills where the angels sing. Aint it funny how an old broken bottle looks just like a diamond ring.

second verse: I leaned on my left leg in the parkin lot dirt, while Kathy was closin the lights. A June bug flew from the warmth he once new, and I wished for once I werent right. Well we used to laugh together, we'd dance just to any old song. You know she still laughs with me, but she waits just a second too long.

third verse: I started the engine and I gave it some gas while Kathy was closin her purse. We hadnt gone far in that beat up old car, when I was prepared for the worst. "Can I still see you tomorrow? No, I got too much to do". Well a question aint really a question, if you know the answer too.
